JULY 2011 | BASTILLE DAY FLASH E-NEWS

Editorial

From Elisabeth Kerdelhué, General Manager

July in Melbourne... Vive la Révolution et vive la France!

With our Bastille Day Arty Apéritif at the National Gallery of Victoria taking place on “le 14 juillet”, this is your chance to celebrate the French National Day in style…. And enjoy a private viewing of the Winter Masterpieces Exhibition – Vienna: Art & Design. And for one lucky guest, there is a trip for two to Paris flying with Air France to be won in our Grand Raffle.

Indeed, Bastille Day is just around the corner and for Melbourne’s shameless Francophiles, the celebration of “le 14 juillet” in the middle of winter is the perfect excuse to go out and indulge in your favourite French dish, be it the quintessential coq au vin, boeuf bourguignon or a perfect steak-frites! For those of you who have not yet decided how and where to celebrate, we have listed below some of the special events that will be hosted by various FACCI members – The Hotel Windsor, Embrasse, Botanical, PM 24, Cacao. For the young and young at heart, Red Bennies and the Alliance Française are hosting an evening of music and dance at Red Bennies in South Yarra. There will definitely be a strong Gallic flavour in Melbourne.

If you miss out on Bastille Day, your next chance at a French feast will be on Friday 22 July, at the 2011 ConnectEast Tour de France Lunch, to be held at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. Now in its 8th year, this annual lunch is all about the things that make France so appealing. This year’s menu, prepared by Executive Chef Shaun Bowles and his team will feature some all time favourite dishes, washed down with great wines from some of the most famous wine regions of France, not to mention a superb plateau de fromages selected by long-time FACCI friend and supporter, Will Studd.

For those inclined to organise their own Tour de France route – be it driving or cycling - you have the chance to enter our raffle and win two tickets to France flying with the multi award-winning airline, Emirates, and driving in the comfort and luxury of a Renault Laguna provided by Renault Eurodrive. And it is all for a good cause as the funds raised at the lunch will be donated to our charity partner, Hanover Welfare Services.

So get behind Cadel Evans and strengthen your French connections at this not-to-be missed Tour de France Lunch celebration. Thanks to footage from SBS TV, you will be able to travel vicariously through some of the most beautiful French towns and villages alongside your favourite Tour de France riders – be they French or Australians!

A très bientôt, au 14 juillet ou au Tour de France… where else?!

Films

Mozart’s Sister

Screening at Palace Como, Palace Balwyn, Palace Brighton Bay and Cinema Nova
from Thursday 7 July

A speculative account of Maria Anna “Nannerl” Mozart (Marie Feret), five years older than Wolfgang (David Moreau) and a musical prodigy in her own right. Originally the featured performer, she has given way to Wolfgang as the main attraction, as their strict but loving father Leopold (Marc Barbe) tours his talented offspring in front of the royal courts of pre-French revolution Europe. Approaching marriageable age and now forbidden to play the violin or compose, Nannerl chafes at the limitations imposed on her gender. But a friendship with the son and daughter of Louis XV offers an alternative.

Mozart's Sister 1For those of you who would like to see Mozart’s Sister, we have five complimentary double passes to give away, on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are interested, please contact Melanie Lim on melanie.lim@facci.com.au or call (03) 9600 0000
