Le mot du Président
Jean-Michel Favre - President - FACCI South-Australia
Dear members,
On the 10th of April we will celebrate our First Anniversary. We started FACCI-SA with about 20 members. Now we have grown to 35 members. Your full support of Chamber has been the main contribution to our success. In these difficult economic times, it is vital that we keep maintaining our growth. This will stimulate our network and with it bring further benefits and advantages to our members.
South Australia and France have very strong links and FACCI - SA, with the help and support of its members, intends to be even more involved in that very promising economic relationship.
We look forward to meeting you at our future events. Let’s support each other and succeed together! |

Clipsal is world famous as Australia’s number one brand of electrical accessories. A market leader in electrical accessories, data communications, industrial and home automation markets, the Clipsal name continues to grow from strength to strength.
Clipsal Australia’s vast product range is largely manufactured in Adelaide at Clipsal’s new home at Gepps Cross. The $50m move to Gepps Cross, from Clipsal’s traditional home at Bowden signals a consolidation of the company’s South Australian operation. Regional satellite factories also operate in Strathalbyn and Wingfield, South Australia and Ringwood, Victoria. These factories create employment for over 1,500 people Australia wide.
In the export arena, Clipsal has met with great success and is now the number one brand throughout Asia. In late 2003, the Clipsal brand joined Schneider Electric to become Clipsal Australia. With the backing of the world’s biggest electrical company, Clipsal is now poised to be a major player in global markets and aims to be the number one electrical product brand name in the world.
Clipsal Australia is also well known as the naming rights sponsor of the hugely successful Clipsal Adelaide 500 V8 Supercar Race, often referred to as ‘The Clipsal’. It was during the 2007 event that Clipsal launched their major consumer campaign, ‘Living Electrical’, with the aim of reaching the 15,000 consumers who will build a new home or renovate their existing home each year. |

A new step forward in the campaign for raw-milk cheese
Signed on Monday 15 December 2008, in Paris, by French Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Michel Barnier, and his Australian counterpart, represented by Australian Ambassador to France, David Ritchie, the MoU makes official the opening of the Australian market to Roquefort cheese, which was granted in September 2005 after many years of negotiation. The addition of a clause to the text prepared in 2005 also means that exporters of Roquefort cheese, so far the only soft raw-milk cheese allowed to be sold in Australia, will be able to rely in Australia......read more |

The French Consulate
The French Consulate helps all the French residents in Australia, the French tourists and Students with the formalities to obtain passports, visas, National ID cards and Registration cards, Declaration of birth, marriage and death. The consulate is also dealing with foreigners who have worked in France and with the French to help them with their pension files.
We also deal with a number of lost passports and other documents, problems with the police, and numerous requests for visas ( short stay, long stay, African countries, student, research, working Holiday visa...).
The consulate offers some help to French visitors who have been injured and need to be sent back to France. We cannot give any financial help but we can liaise with health insurances, translation between doctors and patients, visits to hospitals.
We must remind the French national that they must be registered with the General Consulate in Sydney in order to vote at the next elections.

Visit of a French sommelier to SA wineries
Emmanuel Delmas, an award-winning sommelier at Fouquet’s Restaurant on the Champs Elysees, spent a week touring the Barossa, Adelaide Hills, Clare and McLaren Vale. He’s already published on his internet site a glowing account of his trip and this all helps to shape the reputation and image of South Australian wine in France.”
Marjane Beaugeois-Grdovic from the Department of Trade and Economic Development and FACCI-SA board member accompanied Mr Delmas on his tour of SA, which included a visit to Penfold’s Magill Estate, Henschke, Yalumba, Skillogalee and Wirra Wirra.
On his website, www.sommelier-vins.com he writes: “One week and 17 wineries visited. And wow! Weren’t there some pleasant surprises? I was amazed at the level of awareness and passion among wine makers down under …”
He talks of tasting “wines of stunning freshness, whites, reds that can sometimes be sublime or very good, often surprising …”
Mr Delmas was surprised that so many of the South Australian winemakers he met had implemented the biodynamic and organic principles, referring to it as a “return to the true values of the earth – no herbicides, no pesticides, little or no irrigation – hence a respect for the soil, the return of wildlife to the wine growing regions, life back to what it should be…”
On his website he’s urged French wine distributors to “get out and try some really good wines.”
