FACCI-SA EVENTS

The Chamber very first Regatta

Sunday 15th May was a big day for FACCI-SA as we organised our very first Regatta: “
FACCI-SA & Peugeot Encounter Regatta”

We all gathered at the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club (GRYC) for a big Racing Day and lots of fun!

The 2011 winner was the crew of boat “Oh Really” and their captain Mr Mike O'Rilley, very first team to appear on our perpetual trophy!

Due to the success of the event, the GRYC Board members have decided to add our event to their yearly Calendar of Events and Peugeot has agreed to sponsor it for the next 5 years!

We are pleased to announce that 2012 “FACCI-SA & Peugeot Encounter Regatta” will be held on Sunday 15th April! So please save the date and start training! More information will be in FACCI-SA communications early next year!

XVIII Century Bastille Day Gala Dinner

We’re sure that no one will ever forget FACCI-SA 2011 Bastille Day Gala Dinner! People are still talking about it and how good everybody looked in their 18th Century costumes! Such style and elegance!

Bastille Day.gifThis year more than 250 guests stormed the InterContinental ballroom! It was a fantastic night where we enjoyed French “opérette” arias, moving piano pieces and a very colorful 18th Century fashion show. The buffet was again a highlight for the eyes and taste buds.

Every year, FACCI-SA Gala Dinner is also an opportunity to raise money for a charity and we are very proud to announce that we raised a total of $2770 for the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.

After a very “revolutionary” 2011 event, we are already planning some big surprises for “le 14 Juillet” 2012 and are very much looking forward to celebrate with you once again!

and much more!

We have organised plenty of successful events this year: an @home event at The Ruby Oracle, a marketing breakfast presentation by the talented Professor Pascale Quester, a cheese and wine night class with The Smelly Cheese Shop and, more recently, a cocktail at Peugeot for the launch of the new models: 308 and 508.

To make sure that you don’t miss anything or if you want to catch up with our latest news, don’t forget to “like” our Facebook page! It is the best way to keep in touch and share info!

2012 Calendar of events is filling up quickly. Remember that we give our members the opportunity to host their own @home event! So if you want to tell Australia about your business, products or services simply give us a ring and we will make it happen!

Alliance Française : Au Revoir Philippe Marsé !

Tell us a bit more about yourself?

My name is Philippe Marsé and I come from Nice in the South of France.

I studied Education Science and Ethnology.

In France I was working as a Continuing Education Advisor for the Ministry of Education. I was managing one of the biggest Language Centres of the Ministry of National Education. I am married with 4 children. I arrived in Adelaide on 21st March 2007 to take on the role of Alliance Française Director in Adelaide and received a warm welcome from Lesley Davies and her partner David Radford.

So you are leaving us... What is your next project?

Directors of the Alliance Française are not allowed to work permanently in the same position. I started with a two-and-a-half-year contract and managed to extend it twice. Now I have no choice but to leave this position even if I would have loved to stay longer in amazing Australia... Unfortunately this is impossible. I am now going to Denver, Colorado to fill the same role of Alliance Française Director.

What do you enjoy the most about working at the Alliance Française?

Work at the Alliance is very diverse. We are at the same time a language centre where people can take French lessons and also a cultural centre. We organise many different cultural events: some bigger than others. For example, the French Film Festival gathered more than 12 000 spectators or the French Festival, where every 2 years we invite a French Region to introduce its cultural heritage to the Australian public.

For those projects to be successful it is important to work with the right partners... and friends! And this is the part I loved the most in my work.

Since its creation, the French Australian Chamber of Commerce has always been by our side which was very lucky.  It started with Jean-Michel Favre 4 years ago and reinforced with FACCI new President Philippe Gravier. I was talking about partners but they are now Friends.

What will remain your best memory with Alliance Française Adelaide?

The French Festival with La Reunion Island in 2010.

We welcomed a delegation of 150 people and had to organise places for them to stay, prepare meetings with political leaders (thank you Christine Rothauser) and managed to get containers with many different things through quarantine (thank you Philippe Gravier). We also had to prepare an attractive artistic program, kitchen demos but also deal with the bad weather. It was a lot of pressure but at the end our partners from La Reunion Island and our visitors had a great time which is all that matters!

What will you miss the most from Australia?

My friends and this beautiful country and amazing people.

What are you the most looking forward to in moving to America?

I don’t have any preconceived ideas. I hope to be able to develop new things and for people to be happy!

Do you have any favourite French recipes?

As I was saying, I come from Nice. In 2008 together with Christine Rothauser, my wife Colette, my daughter Claire and Amandine Caire we organised a “Provence-Côte d’Azur night at the Alliance”, After that, I went to the Alliance in Canberra and  they produced a cook book with traditional recipes from my region one version written in French and the other in English.

If you could have anybody you want around the table to share it, who would you invite?

All my Aussie friends that I will miss so much! It makes me really sad but I hope we will keep in touch.

In French how do you say: “Good luck in your new adventures, we’ll miss you, take care and see you again soon!”

Bonne chance dans tes nouvelles aventures. Tu vas nous manquer. Fais attention à toi et à bientôt !

Sébastien Blancher is the new Alliance Française Director in Adelaide and we are very much looking forward to working with him on many new events!

Do not miss the next Alliance Française event: L'Avare de Molière!

The famous play will take place at the Holden Theatre in Hindmarsh on the 21st and 22nd October. For bookings please contact the Alliance at admin@af.org.au or call 08 8272 4281.

Soniclean

Great news for our Business Member Soniclean who is a finalist in the Business SA 2011 Export Awards in two categories - "Small Business Award" and the "Small to Medium Manufacturer Award"

This is the third year in a row that Soniclean has been a finalist in the Business SA Awards and was the winner last year of the Small Business Award.

It is also the first year that they have been chosen as a finalist in more than one category.

The Export Award application was based in no small way upon the sales that Soniclean achieved in France in 2010-11.

The winners of the 2011 awards will be announced at the Awards Luncheon at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide on Wednesday 19th October.

Since entering the market in 2007, the company has increased its sales each year.

This year, the sales reached a record high and exceeded all expectations which was remarkable given the GFC that affected some of Soniclean’s traditional markets.

The total sales to France last year represented 22% of Soniclean’s total export sales.

Soniclean is represented in France by Alphacomed whose headquarter is located in La Ciotat, near Marseilles.

When entering into the French market Soniclean was originally assisted by the South Australian-based company Exportia Pty Ltd to identify potential distributors and set up introductory meetings with Alphacomed and other potential distributors.

In March this year, Julian Smith, MD of Soniclean, assisted Alphacomed at the French National Sterilisation Congress in Nantes where Alphacomed had a booth displaying the Soniclean products.

This Congress is where all the French hospital Pharmacy Managers attend to learn about innovations in Sterilisation and Infection Control.

There was a great deal of interest in the Soniclean range of products on show.

Further to this visit, David Smith from Soniclean visited Alphacomed in July to provide after-sales product training and visited many hospitals in France who have already installed Soniclean Ultrasonic Cleaners to provide along with Alphacomed preventative maintenance to their machines.

Alphacomed have declared that the Soniclean product range is now their prime focus for their sales in France, this augers go well for Soniclean’s future sales.

The expectation in 2012 is to continue the growth pattern for the fifth consecutive year.

Tenesol

Tenesol, the global solar power provider, is completing its first commercial photo-voltaic project in Adelaide, South Australia with a local partner.

Tenesol recently established a new office in Perth, which brings the company’s 27 years’ experience as an Engineering Procurement and Construction contractor and advanced photo-voltaic module supplier to Australia for the first time. For the project in Adelaide, Tenesol provided engineering expertise and 20 of its TE Lumex dual-glass solar modules.

The TE Lumex dual-glass modules are almost 50% transparent, so they allow light to pass through them while also generating solar energy. Tenesol is the only company to offer TE Lumex modules in Australia.

Humankind’s Wellbeing

Andrea Fernandez graduated with a Bachelor of Health Sciences (Comp Med) and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Integrated iridology® and a Masters Degree in Sclerology. She then started working in a well-established clinic in Adelaide. After working in the field for several years, she decided to open her own clinic HUMANKIND'S WELLBEING in North Adelaide. She just finished writing her first book “Validations” that validates the use of complementary medicine in clinical practice.

Today Andrea explains how she approaches patient treatment:

It is better to pay to prevent disease than to treat the disease itself.

Medicine is divided into specialisations and compartmentalisations making it more challenging to “see the forest for the trees”.  With plentiful of choices of therapists and supplements, which one do you choose? Have you stopped for a moment to think: “Is this the right option for me?”, “Am I getting somewhere?”, “Do I feel a great difference from when I started visiting the practitioner”?

Do not cover the symptoms with synthetic drugs.

Today, heavy metals amongst other toxins threaten our health in incremental values. I find toxins being the reason behind most of my patient’s ailments. These pollutants can be found in aluminium or Teflon cooking ware, Roundup garden spray, commercial cosmetics and toiletries and even the polystyrene coffee cup to name a few. They have a neuro-endocrine effect; disrupting nervous system function and creating hormonal havoc. You might not even be aware of this exposure yet the physiological disruption may have already taken place 5 years before symptoms manifest. Are you drinking from that over-used plastic bottle that keeps leaching hormone-disrupting plasticides at every sip of water you take? Have you also thought you’d be healthy eating that salad that at the end of 12 months gives your body close to 4 litres of pesticides? We know now that contamination occurs at the foetal level when the mother passes between 40-60% of her toxins via the placenta and through breastfeeding.

These neuro-endocrine disturbances compromise the effectiveness of many, if not all treatments natural or pharmaceutical. Such a disruption may present itself as chronic auto-immune conditions, hormonal afflictions, sugar imbalances, adrenal problems, excess weight, persistent fatigue, fungal infections, thyroid disorders, leaky gut and the like. Consequently the cause of all ailments gets lost amidst a long list of symptoms.

Think of the patient in his/ her totality

Our unique methods of assessment and heavy-metal- specific detoxification protocols give us the tools to find and eliminate toxins hiding in your body giving your presenting symptoms. One must remember that if you want to achieve quality and quantity of life you mustn’t just treat the symptoms but rather the underlying cause of disease.

South Australian Wine of the Year Awards

The annual South Australian Wine of the Year Awards is a nationally-recognised event that has been held since 1987.

Run and hosted by the InterContinental Adelaide, the South Australian Wine of the Year Awards has been co-sponsored by The Advertiser since 1990.

The event is open to all South Australian wineries and this year, more than a 1000 entries were received and judged in mid-July.

The success of these awards relies heavily upon the judging of both Professional and Consumer Judging Panels.

The Professional Judging Panel consists of a mixture of professional wine judges and wine-makers. It totals 12 judges along with the Chairman.

The Consumer Judging Panel was introduced in 1989 and comprises successful entrants in an Advertiser-run essay competition. It brings a unique dimension to the competition as it brings a consumer focus to the judging. The consumer aspect is regarded by the public as highly as the professional selection.

The South Australian Wine of the Year Awards was held on Friday 2nd September.

The Professional Judging Panel awarded Wine of the Year to Pewsey Vale 2005 The Contours Riesling, while the consumer panel decided on the Wirra Wirra 12th Man Chardonnay 2010.

Opera “Carmen”

Carmen.jpgCarmen is the most performed and certainly one of the greatest opera in the world and we are absolutely thrilled that it will be played the Adelaide Festival Theatre from 5th to 12th November 2011.

The opera was written by George Bizet on a libretto by Henri Meillhac and Ludovic Halévy after Prosper Mérimée's novel.

The first performance given on 3rd March 1875 was a complete failure. Bizet died soon after.

Carmen, a beautiful and temperamental gypsy girl, courted by all the men, works in a Seville cigarette factory. Arrested after a fight with one of her co-workers, she is assigned to the custody of Don José, a corporal in the local barracks whose betrothed, Micaela, has just arrived from their village to look for him. Thoroughly bewitched by Carmen, he allows her to escape and he is immediately placed under arrest.

Meanwhile, at the tavern of Lillas Pastia, the glamorous toreador Escamillo, arrives and sets his sights on Carmen. The latter resists and decides to wait for Don José. He arrives at the tavern and becomes involved in a fight with his officer Zuniga. He joins with reluctance Carmen and her smuggler companions in the mountains. Carmen gets soon bored with Don José and she agrees to meet Escamillo during the forthcoming bullfight in Seville but Don Jose follows her to Seville...

Cheese Class with The Smelly Cheese

Cheese has been a staple of French cuisine for as long as people can remember. It reflects the regional surrounds or ‘terroirs’ as much as local history and traditions.

So if you are a ‘fin gourmet’, or simply crazy about cheese, join us on Monday 7th November from 6pm to 8pm and take this opportunity to learn about famous cheese producing regions such as Normandie, Vallée de la Loire, Auvergne, Île-de-France and Bourgogne. This class also offers the chance to get tips on some of the more difficult French pronunciation.
