Having gained worldwide recognition, with major public and
private collections forming all over the world, Australian Indigenous art
can offer interesting alternative investment opportunities.
Access
to this unique, oldest continuing artistic tradition is however complicated
by an abounding offer, multiple sales channels and production conditions,
and conflicting prices. It is not only important to be able to appreciate
quality works of art and the market’s evolution, it is essential to
understand what is at stake in the acquisition process and what makes the
value of the work of art.
Solenne
Ducos-Lamotte is a French specialist of
Australian Indigenous Art. She is the director and founder of IDAIA, an
organisation dedicated to the development of quality and ethical Australian
Aboriginal Art among international audiences through educating, sourcing
and facilitating acquisition and exhibition projects.
Previously she was the Head of the
Aboriginal art department at Michael Reid – Caruana
& Reid Fine Art in Sydney, where she
collaborated with Wally Caruana, the first and former senior curator of Australian
Indigenous Art at the National Gallery of Australia
in Canberra
for over twenty years.
In
her presentation Solenne will be introducing
Australian Indigenous Art through its history and current richly diverse
forms and will explain why it is a growing international market.

This
seminar will be followed by an art networking reception with French wines
and cheeses; and a private viewing of the Our Stories,
our way exhibition, held at the Alliance Française
de Melbourne with the participation of East Gippsland Aboriginal Arts
Corporation.
