Water to Wine
South Australia is a Great Wine Capital (GWC) - one of only nine places (including Bordeaux) around the world to hold this title.
In this session, we look at the critical role that the water industry and innovative water and related technology plays in making South Australia a GWC.
Guiding us through is an esteemed panel of experts in the water and wine industries – with a distinctly French flavour:
CEO, SA Water
Wine needs Water. Water needs Energy. Roch will discuss the challenges of providing water in “the driest state in the driest continent” and the solutions SA Water has developed to make sure its customers have the services they expect.
General Manager, Barossa Infrastructure Limited
The mission of the Barossa Infrastructure Limited Scheme is to “To provide a high quality water supply in the Barossa which, when applied in environmentally and viticulturally appropriate quantities, sustains crop yield and quality through dry periods at a cost that is lower than other quality water sources.” Paul will provide an overview of the evolution of the Scheme, which has been developed on the foundation of a near 20 year operations partnership with SA Water. Paul will then delve into the detail of how the company uses technology to monitor the scheme, including the application of innovative web-based solutions to monitoring. He will also explain how this information can be further used in connection with other data sets to provide a complete picture of inputs and soil moisture.
PRW Sustainability Manager, Pernod Ricard
Stephen will focus on solar power generation in winemaking, and its relevance and necessity in the context of the broader electricity market. He will consider the dual role and benefits of solar in supply stability and sustainability, and conclude with a practical discussion of the business case for solar, and its usage across the wine industry.
CEO, Brand South Australia
Karen will present the GWC, its objectives and the significance for South Australia and the French and Australian community. In 2018, Adelaide will play host to the next meeting of GWC representatives, and Karen will outline the plans for this next official GWC meeting.
