On Tuesday 7 May, FACCI NSW was pleased to hold its first occurrence of CEOs and YPs Exchange Series.
The event took on the format of a round table conference, whereby Young Professional members shared a table with one of the CEOs, who rotated between the tables three times throughout the evening. The CEOs discussed with the YPs three themes, spending 20 minutes per topic.
The aim of “CEOs and Young Professionals (YP) Exchange Series” was to provide the FACCI’s YP members the incredible opportunity not only to meet these knowledgeable CEOs, but also to become informed about topics which are of great interest to today’s young generations. During the evening the following three themes were covered and our participants come to the following conclusions:
- Cross Cultural Management
There are multiple sources of diversity in a company. Languages and cultures of course, but also gender, training and work experience. Cross cultural management aims at getting the best out of these differences within a company, in order to achieve the strongest results.
- New Technologies
Whilst new technologies immensely improve work efficiency and communication within a company there can often come a point where emails, phone calls, conference calls and meetings inhibit our abilities to carry out our necessary work. Their frequency stops us from concentrating and focusing on our work. Workers need to self-discipline themselves to avoid getting overwhelmed by new technologies.
- Generation Y Workforce (under 35)
Nowadays, companies no longer guarantee lifelong employment for their employees nor stability that would result from it. As a result, Generation Y strives for more flexibility and a better work/life balance. They expect that their employers will provide them with a true balance between their work and their free time as well as that the company will contribute to their personal development. They are also more conscious about ethics and expect their companies to reduce their social and environmental impact. These themes were chosen as we have decided to put emphasis on what it means to be a YP today, that is, being international career oriented, being connected and being part of Generation Y.
We would like to thank you all for your attendance at this Exchange Series. We deeply thank our CEOs present at the evening:
- Philip Cronin, Director of the Regional Sales Organisation for Intel Asia Pacific
- Didier Mahout, CEO of Australia & New Zealand at BNP Paribas
- Gordon Makryllos, Managing Director of Orange Business Services, Australasia
