On Friday 24 July 2015, the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FACCI) hosted the 12th Europcar Tour de France Lunch at Peninsula (Docklands). Over 600 guests came together to celebrate the Tour de France two days before the arrival of the pelotonon the Champs Elysees.
This year again, the French-Australian Chamber was delighted to work in partnership with Europcar who provided a loyal support to the event. The Europcar Tour de France Lunch is proud to support its Charity Partner, the Amy Gillett Foundation, a cycling association promoting safer roads for cyclists. Funds for the Amy Gillett Foundation have been raised through the Grand Raffle, and the different auctions available to guests at the event.
For the second year, the Lunch was proudly hosted by our two Masters of Ceremony, Gabriel Gate and David Culbert who have led the peloton of this annual celebration of La Grande Boucle.
Christophe Mallet, hosted a very insightful and interesting panel discussion with the kind participation of Bradley Mc Gee, who has shared his experiences of the race and also the Avanti Rider team represented by Pat Shaw and Neil Van der Ploeg who provided us some keys to rider preparation and their dreams for the Avanti team.
Guests enjoyed a French menu designed by Philippe Mouchel, famous Chef at Deja-Vue.
The entrée included a Double baked Gouda cheese soufflé and pomegranate vinaigrette. The Plat du Jour featured a delicious rump of lamb and vegetables accompanied by a celeriac Dijonnaise. The Plateau de Fromages kindly selected by our Culinary Partner Calendar Cheese give to this menu a “Dutch touch” with a delicious Gouda in honour of Utrecht, first step of the 2015 race in the Netherlands. Our guests enjoyed a delicious dessert composed of a white chocolate ganache and sage with caramelised pear and crumble.
As for the wines, there was something to match every course including the M.Chapoutier Cotes du Rhone “Belleruche” 2012, Pinot Noir from Burgundy and a Bordeaux St Emilion to match the cheese. The dessert has been deliciously accompanied by a Jurancon 2009 selected by Discover Vin.
Christophe Mallet and Gabriel Gate added a touch of competition to the event’s atmosphere with a Grand Quiz on the race, French regions and gastronomy. The three winners received some wonderful prizes offered by our event partners including an Avanti Bike.
The event ended with the Grand Raffle draw where the lucky winner won a trip for two to France, donated by our Airlines Partner, Emirates.
