Interview with Scott Roberts, Director - Client Services and OD Consulting
Could you tell us more about the history of Rubicor Group and its activities?
The Rubicor Group is one of the largest providers of recruitment and human resource services in Australia, New Zealand and Asia and was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) in 2007.
The Rubicor Group was created in 2005 by acquiring an array of boutique privately owned recruitment businesses across Australia including (but not limited to) Cadden Crowe, James Gall, Apsley, SMF, Locher, Challenge, CiTP, Skill Search and the GEL Group. In 2016, our IT brands were merged creating Xpand.
In 2017, Rubicor rebranded and reorganised into 6 recruitment and HR Solutions businesses delivering complete staffing, payroll, and managed services solutions across a diverse range of industry sectors and geographies.
• Rubicor Workforce
• Rubicor Government
• Rubicor Professional
• Rubicor Technical
• Gaulter Russel Numero
In addition, the Rubicor Group offers through its Organisational Design and Development arm consulting support providing Psychological Assessment solutions for selection and development, team and leadership development, business strategy and change management support and HR services and career transition support.
Can you describe your personal background and your current role within Rubicor Group?
I studied a Bachelor of Psychology and Sociology at Monash University in Melbourne and later completed a Master’s degree in Industrial Psychology from the University of Hull in the UK. After completing my Bachelors I moved to Papua New Guinea where I spent 10 years working in government and mining. After 10 years in PNG, my wife, our four children and I moved to Mount Isa, and for the next 10 years we experienced the outback life in the North West Queensland and in the Northern Territory. I have around 18 years of experience in mining in diverse roles ranging from Human Resources, Maintenance, Commercial and Business Support. After leaving the mines I had my own consulting company specialised in organisation design and change, and then worked for Adventure West providing experiential leadership and team development.
My career move into the recruitment sector happened in 2001 and after almost 5 years as General Manager John Davidson and Associates, I joined Cadden Crowe in 2006, which was then already owned by Rubicor. I came on board to take Cadden Crowe offshore. I have personal interests in the Pacific thus I became Principal of the Pacific, this was then expanded to the Queensland Asia-Pacific and during this time I established partner offices in Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Indonesia and later we expanded into the Philippines and then in the Solomon Islands. I was appointed Managing Principal of Cadden Crowe in April 2009. In recent years, I have overseen the merging of three iconic Rubicor brands Cadden Crowe, James Gall and Locher into Rubicor Technical. I am now Director of Client Services for the Rubicor Group and General Manager of the OD Consulting arm.
How do you envisage the future of your company and how can FACCI help you achieve your new goals?
The Rubicor Group will continue to evolve and adapt to the changing needs of our customers and the technological advances. We take a long term view and seek to be a partner of the businesses we serve.
FACCI is important to us as our membership has assisted us over the years to build business connectivity in New Caledonia, we have also grown in our appreciation of the long history of investment and the growing investment in Australia by French companies. Our interaction with FACCI members has contributed to our learning about how business is conducted in France and how to be successful within the French business community along with the chance to further understand the French language and culture. We have also benefitted from the opportunity to establish and help French companies grow their business in Australia and in new places such as Papua New Guinea. We hope this will continue.
