"100% Greenpower" for Bolloré Logistics Australia's reduction of carbon footprint

Bolloré Logistics Australia fights against climate change with a focused strategy to reduce its scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions.

Through its "Powering Sustainable Logistics" CSR program and its strategy to fight against climate change, Bolloré Logistics Australia aims to reduce its carbon footprint by 43% for GHG scope 1 & 2 emissions by 2027 (vs 2017 baseline), and 30% for GHG scope 3 emissions by 2030 (vs 2019 baseline).

To achieve the above-mentioned targets by 2027, Bolloré Logistics Australia is on its journey with a focused year-on-year strategy to reduce its scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions.

  • In 2022, to reduce scope 2 emissions from its own operations, solar systems were installed at several sites in Melbourne, Banksmeadow, and Perth. Brisbane site recently moved to a new location that already had a solar system installed on its roof.

  • In 2023, the goal is to further reduce 2022 scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by an absolute 10%. If installation of solar systems onsite reduces the consumption of electricity from the grid, solar systems cannot cater for 100% of consumption needs. Indeed, electricity is supplied by the network when the weather is unfavorable and in the evenings when there is less sunlight. This type of consumption then contributes to GHG emissions since a large percent of the electricity in Australia is still generated from fossil fuels.

To further reduce Bolloré's scope 2 GHG emissions, the sites of Banksmeadow, Erskine Park, Melbourne, and Brisbane recently entered into contracts with electricity retailers to purchase electricity from 100% Australian renewable energy sources through the purchase of GreenPower accredited electricity.

Such contracts are accredited products under Australia’s GreenPower scheme. GreenPower independently audits electricity providers to make sure the right amount of renewable energy is fed into the grid on behalf of their customers.

Companies like Bolloré Logistics that use GreenPower are listed on the Australian Government's website.

With such an initiative, Bolloré Logistics Australia plans to reduce in 2023 more than 383 tonnes of CO2e scope 2 GHG emissions by buying an estimated 456,000 kWh of GreenPower renewable electricity from the grid.
