Chris Sharpley:"The environment for business co-operation between South Australia and France has never been better"

    SA  |

It is an exciting time for the French Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FACCI) in South Australia. The decision by the Federal Government to award to the French company DCNS the contract to build 12 submarines for the Australian Navy means that we will see a significant increase in French corporate activity in South Australia in the years to come.

FACCI’s primary purpose is to help foster economic, commercial and financial relations between France and Australia.

One of our key objectives in South Australia will be to assist with the introduction of French companies establishing operations in this state to potential local suppliers. Similarly, we are keen to help facilitate introductions for South Australian businesses to these French companies – many of whom will have expertise not only in submarines but in a wide variety of industries.

Of course South Australia’s future business connections to France will not just relate to the Defence Industry. We have a long and successful history of working together in the wine and wine services industries. This will continue to be of great importance to South Australia. Significant business opportunities also exist in areas such as Advanced Manufacturing, Agriculture, Tourism, Health Care, Education, Water and Waste Management.

The environment for business co-operation between South Australia and France has never been better. Both the Federal and State Governments are enthusiastically and actively supporting such co-operation. The establishment of a French and Australian bilingual education program for students at two Adelaide schools will greatly assist French expatriates and their families settle into Adelaide.

FACCI in South Australia has just elected a new State Council – 20 enthusiastic individuals with diverse business backgrounds but one common link: a passion for enhancing French and Australian business interests. We will be holding a series of events over the next 12 months – including some networking events to help bring together representatives from South Australian and French companies.

I hope you will be able to join us at these events.
