DORIS Engineering is a French company that specializes in engineering services for the oil and gas industry, onshore and offshore. They offer their services to operators for studies, calculations, drawings, creating layouts, etc.
This sustainable and ethical company, which values the quality of its expertise and its commitment to research & development, continues to strenghten its global position in advanced offshore technologies. Implanted in Australia since 2011, Doris Engineering Australia recently (February 2017) changed its director. For the occasion and through the French Australian Chamber of Commerce (FACCI), we met and sat down with the new director Benoit Lamoureux, to know more about the group and its role in the Australian market.
Tell us a bit about your career and the reasons why you came to Perth
Benoît LAMOUREUX – I have an engineering degree in chemical engineering (process engineering) acquired at the UTC in France (2003). After graduating from university, I worked for Doris Engineering in Paris for 3 years. At that time, I was working on processing and designing topsides and subsea production equipment.
In 2006, I was ready to try something new in Australia. So I moved to Perth in 2006 where I worked for IGL Oil & Gas.
I worked there for 2 years before joining Quandrant Energy (formerly Apache Energy) as a contractor, still in the Oil & Gas industry.
In 2013, I worked on the Gorgon project for Chevron, on the commissioning of the subsea controls system and the onshore interfaces.
In September 2016, Doris contacted me for the position of Doris Engineering Australia Director, I accepted and so I started in February 2017.

Since when has Doris Engineering been implanted in Australia ? And how would you describe its role in the Australian market ?
Doris Engineering Australia exists since 2011.
We specialize in conceptual studies, Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Detailed Design, so all the work necessary for the beginning of construction and the installation of equipment. When construction begins, we also provide engineers for the technical assistance, the offshore installation and for field start-up.
For example, from the beginning of the Ichthys project, Doris Australia and Clough Joint Venture (CDJV), has been providing integrated project management services to INPEX since 2011.
In Australia this industry is very competitive, what makes Doris different from its competitors?
We differentiate ourselves from other companies by being more innovative in our engineering, by bringing new concepts, thinking about the best methods to design a safe system at a competitive price, while bringing our technical knowledge acquired all around the world with our operators. This is what DORIS Engineering is about.
We also rely a lot on the quality of our staff and their loyalty to our company.
We are also known for our strong skills in the field of renewable energies. We already have business units in France and London for everything related to offshore and onshore wind turbines, it's something that Doris has been doing for 15 years. (https://lnkd.in/dpTCNnS)
Except Australia and France, where else can we find Doris Engineering ? And how do you communicate with the headquarters in Paris?
Doris headquarters are located in Paris, where we have 170 employees. Globally, we have more than 700 employees with offices in Perth, Abu Dhabi, Rio, London, Houston and Luanda. We are very well established in all continents.
As a subsidiary director, I communicate directly with the CEO in Paris by sending weekly reports. Whenever I need help, I just contact them but I'm fully in charge of the development of Doris Engineering Australia in Perth.
What are the upcoming projects for Doris Engineering Australia ?
For the time being, DORIS Australia is focusing on business development, we want to be more visible to the operators. The WA branch of the French Australian Chamber of Commerce is actually a great help in this area. Through the network of FACCI members, I get many new contacts.
Besides this, we keep on contributing to current projects (Ichthys), we look for new contract opportunities and we continue to look at different business proposal. The Oil & Gas market is starting to get back on its feet so there is potentially new opportunities for Doris Engineering Australia.
