Interview with Anouk Poelmann, Managing Director of PEUGEOT-Citroën Australia
Could you tell us more about the history of PEUGEOT and Citroën as brands and PEUGEOT-Citroën Australia?
PEUGEOT and Citroën, once independent companies, are owned by the French PSA Groupe which was formed in 1976 when the two brands amalgamated.
Both brands have a rich history of over 200 years in automotive engineering excellence and international acclaim. Throughout this time the brands have delivered award-winning, innovative and much-loved vehicles around the world.
Inchcape Australia was appointed Australian distributor for French marques PEUGEOT and Citroën on June 1, 2017, and this was the beginning of PEUGEOT Citroën Australia (PCA.) An important part of the PCA strategy is the consolidation of the brands, with a clear vision of how the brands will evolve and thrive in Australia under the direction of Inchcape.
Can you describe the activities of PEUGEOT-Citroën Australia?
PEUGEOT is fast becoming a major player in the growing SUV segment with three SUV offers - 2008, 3008 and the seven seater 5008. Engineering excellence sits at the heart of PSA, and this was showcased by the 3008 winning European Car of the Year in 2017, and the PSA Groupe winning Engine of the year in 2017.
Citroën is a unique brand which appeals to people’s individuality. It sits within its own niche segment and already has many loyal followers in Australia. Another highly awarded brand, most recently the Citroën C3 Aircross was nominated as a finalist in the 2018 European Car of the Year award.
With such great products being produced by both PEUGEOT and Citroën, we are focused on driving brand awareness and desirability for the brands in the Australian market. We see strong growth potential for both brands, appealing to Australia’s love of European-design, high quality and dynamic handling vehicles.
Tell us about your personal background and your role within PEUGEOT-Citroën Australia?
In July this year I relocated from Luxembourg to Sydney to join PEUGEOT Citroën Australia as Managing Director. My husband and son will be joining me in Sydney in 2018.
I completed a Masters’ degree in economics and have had a wealth of experience in the automotive industry, having worked in both manufacturing and retail. I served as Chief Operating Officer of a major European multi-branded retail group with French roots and have held various in-country OEM management positions including Managing Director roles in both Switzerland and Russia.
How do you envisage the future of your company and how can the French-Australian Chamber help you achieve your objectives?
PEUGEOT and Citroën are proudly French and PCA aspire to share the French allure and emotion associated with each of these brands with the wider Australian audience. By partnering and working with other French brands who have similar goals we hope to strengthen the brands’ position within the Australian market and increase the positive perception of French brands here in Australia.
