Meetings longer than 45 minutes are unproductive: How to switch from Individual Talent to Collective Intelligence

    NSW  |

The French-Australian Chamber of Commerce was delighted to host a Business Workshop on the topic: ‘How to Switch from Individual Talent to Collaborative Intelligence’ at the Alliance Française Sydney yesterday afternoon (Thursday 1 June). This lunchtime session was run by Félix Grardel, Business Manager Oceania at Kickle, an innovative tech company and FACCI member specialising in next generation video conferencing rooms systems.

During the highly interactive presentation and workshop, participants discovered how old-fashioned, often unproductive meeting styles, rarely managed to achieve the desired result and in fact, frequently led to the need for further meetings due to lack of satisfactory outcomes. Indeed, participants learnt that meetings longer than 45 minutes were most likely to be declared as inefficient, boring or unhelpful, particularly as lengthy meetings led to more time needed to respond to emails, missed calls etc. occurring during the meeting itself.

New tools and technologies, physical management of meeting spaces and a greater awareness of different participants’ meeting requirements were put forward as ideas to help resolve lack of meeting efficiency.

Félix’s engaging style of presenting actively encouraged audience participation and enabled attendees to work together to learn about ways to better collaborate.

The workshop focused on three key situations that we often come across in the workplace today:

Coordination: the group is not a group as such. The objective remains individual. Only the management considers that the group coordinates.

Cooperation: The group is divided into specialised teams that carry out part of the task.

Collaboration: The group members work towards a common goal. But in the end, everyone seeks to attain his/her own ends, individually.

Félix offered different solutions and unique technical solutions to help workers switch from a coordinated way of working to a more collaborative one.

The French-Australian Chamber of Commerce would like to thank Félix Grardel for his interesting, interactive workshop.

Many thanks to all of you who attended, we hope you enjoyed it and look forward to seeing you soon!
