    Government 

    • An increase in the payroll tax-free threshold from $800,000 to $850,000, effective from 1 July 2016
    • $20 million over four years for government departments to work with relevant industries to support researchers, innovators and start-up businesses that have the greatest potential to strengthen, broaden and build the Western Australian economy
    • $30 million over two years to 2019-20 to continue the Exploration Incentive Scheme to support exploration by mining businesses for the long-term sustainability of the State’s resources sector
    • $16 million to support high quality Australian and international film production in regional Western Australia and facilitate growth for regional based businesses and services related to film production

    Australia’s western gateway 

    • Perth occupies a unique geographic and economic position as being Australia’s closest and most accessible capital city to the world’s strongest economic growth regions and has evolved into a major hub for air travel, freight and logistics
    • Perth enjoys the shortest travel times of any Australian state capital city to key markets in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, the United Kingdom and most Asian markets
    • The Port of Fremantle, which operates through two harbours, is the State’s largest and busiest general cargo port, and an important historical site
    • The Inner Harbour handles almost all of Western Australia’s container trade and provides facilities for livestock exports, motor vehicle imports, other general cargo trades, cruise ships and visiting naval vessels
    • The Outer Harbour is one of Australia’s major bulk cargo ports, handling grain, petroleum, liquid petroleum gas, alumina, mineral sands, fertilisers and other bulk commodities.
