Spiecapag Awarded Pelican Point Lateral Relocation Project by Epic Energy
Spiecapag wins Epic Energy’s Pelican Point pipeline relocation EPC contract, with construction expected from late 2026 to early 2028.
Spiecapag Australia has been awarded the Pelican Point Lateral Pipeline Relocation Project by Epic Energy.
The project, awarded under an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract, involves the delivery of a new 3.9-kilometre DN450 gas pipeline to replace the existing Pelican Point Lateral.
Located on the Lefevre Peninsula, approximately 19 km northwest of Adelaide, the project forms part of the Moomba to Adelaide Pipeline System (MAPS), owned and operated by Epic Energy.
Initiated by Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI), the pipeline relocation is intended to maintain continuity of gas supply while enabling major infrastructure development at the Osborne Naval Shipyard (ONS) as part of Australia’s defence infrastructure programme.
Spiecapag’s Scope of Work
Under its contract with Epic Energy, Spiecapag’s scope includes:
- Full EPC delivery of the new pipeline
- Installation of a ~3.9 km buried DN450 pipeline, including a ~660 m horizontal directional drill (HDD) beneath the Port Adelaide River
- Construction of associated facilities including offtake stations, pig launcher and receiver systems, and cathodic protection infrastructure
- Decommissioning and abandonment of the existing Pelican Point Lateral pipeline
The pipeline will be constructed using API 5L X60 steel and delivered in accordance with AS/NZS 2885 standards and applicable environmental, safety, and cultural heritage requirements.
Project Timeline and Workforce
Mobilisation is anticipated in Q4 2026, with completion expected in late 2027 / early 2028. The project will draw on both local and interstate workforce, supporting local employment and capability development.
