Christian Maier Wine Consultancy is specialised in designing tailor-made services in the wine industry since 1993.
Its founder, Christian Maier, has been working as a Sommelier and brings together 27 years of experience in this field. His expertise and knowledge have been praised many times for the selection of wines.
Christian Maier Wine Consultancy’s services include:
• Development of a wine list based on food compatibility, market trends, clientele demographic, business requirements and cost parameters ;
• Creation of custom wine dinners, wine masterclasses and beverage promotion ;
• Mentoring of a resident Sommelier or a wine team.
Having a passion for wine and an unquenchable thirst for wine knowledge, Christian Maier has spent many years in Michelin-starred restaurants in France and United-Kingdom.
Upon arrival in Australia he further developed his skills by focusing on oenology and was appointed to the position of Sommelier at Hotel Sofitel Melbourne in 1994 subsequently being awarded Best Hotel wine list in 1997. In 2000, the Age Good Food Guide handed Christian the inaugural award for Service Excellence.
His efforts also got rewarded with the RACV Club Member's Dining Room being awarded Australia's Best Club Wine List for four consecutive years and subsequently inducted to the Hall of Fame at the Wine List of the Year Awards.
Christian's strength is the creation and engineering of wine lists with the collaboration of wine suppliers and the resident chef. Christian has developed a wine program for Six Senses yao Noi Thailand (voted best resort in the world – UK Telegraph). He engaged with suppliers to maximise discounts and sponsorships and increased bottom line by installed ‘enomatic’ pouring system, staff wine training program from beginner to advanced and mentoring of resident Sommelier to WSET L3.
He has implemented a series of wine dinners and wine masterclasses to engage guests and increase prestige of the Resort. In his most recent portfolio, Christian created a wine program and wine events for RACV Clubs and Resorts. Then, he founded a wine interest group of 500 members to increase wine events visibility and wine retail sales.
