Gary StewartManaging Director, Rheinmetall Defence Australia

As Managing Director for Rheinmetall Defence Australia Pty Ltd, Gary Stewart is responsible for leading all Rheinmetall Defence activities in Australia and New Zealand. With offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Wellington, the portfolio cover logistics and tactical vehicles, soldier systems, maritime and air defence, weapons and ammunition, active and passive protection systems, simulation and training, and support service capabilities. Gary has worked with Rheinmetall Defence since 2015, leading the campaign for LAND 400 and since 2016 as the Chief Operations Officer for Australia.

Throughout 2014 and 2015, Gary worked for Nova Systems, an Australian owned professional services company. While at Nova, Gary provided expert management and technical advice to a range of tier one defence prime contractors and the Australian Defence Force. From 2001 to 2013, Gary worked in a range a senior executive and management roles in General Dynamics Land Systems. These roles spanned complex military vehicle system programs in Australia and Canada, including the Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV), the Australian Abrams main battle tank, the Canadian Armoured Personnel Carrier, and establishing performance based long term support contracts for these systems.

Gary started his career in the Royal Australian Air Force, serving 11 years as an engineering officer. On leaving the Air Force in 1999, he worked as a project management consultant to Defence.

Gary has a Bachelors Degree in Electronics Engineering, a Masters of Science in Aerosystems Engineering, and a Graduate Certificate in Management.
