Beca announced it has acquired CQG Consulting, a highly reputable regional Queensland environmental and planning specialist consultancy.

Beca, an employee-owned engineering and professional services companies across Australia, New Zealand and Asia Pacific, has acquired CQG, a regional Queensland environmental and planning specialist consultancy. The acquisition of CQG Consulting by Beca was completed on 1 June 2026, marking a significant milestone for the company in Australia and growing its national workforce to more than 1,000 people.

CQG strengthens Beca’s regional Queensland presence

Established in 2003, headquartered in Rockhampton and with offices in Gladstone, Mackay, Townsville and Brisbane, CQG’s team of more than 45 specialists will join Beca in Australia, adding complementary capability in environmental science, ecology, GIS, stakeholder engagement, planning and approvals advisory.

Andrew Mailer, Managing Director, Australia, Beca said:

“It brings talented Queenslanders into our business and allows us to offer greater diversity of expertise to CQG’s strong client base across regional Queensland. Combined with recent organic growth, this takes Beca Australia past 1,000 people nationwide, a significant milestone that reflects our long-term commitment to growing our impact in Australia, particularly in regional areas.”

This acquisition supports Beca’s growth strategy of Australian expansion in key markets, particularly water, energy and defence. Adding CQG’s trusted early-stage environmental advisory, planning and engagement capability positions Beca throughout regional Queensland. Andrew Mailer, Managing Director, Australia, Beca said regional Queensland is a deliberate choice for Beca’s growth agenda in Australia, with major industries and significant water, defence, energy and infrastructure opportunities in the pipeline:

"The connection of Beca’s broad engineering and advisory capabilities in infrastructure, energy, industrial, defence and water, with the expertise and deep relationships that CQG’s people value, will increase our impact on communities in regional Queensland. Combined with recent organic growth, this takes Beca Australia past 1,000 people nationwide, a significant milestone that reflects our long-term commitment to growing our impact in Australia, particularly in regional areas.”

A new chapter for CQG

Patrice Brown, Founder of CQG, said joining Beca represents an important next chapter for CQG.

“We have been approached by several interested buyers over the last decade. Beca stood out as the best alignment for CQG’s staff and our clients, with values that resonate with the business we have built and fostered over the last 23 years. We have built our business on trusted relationships, outcome-focused advisory and a deep understanding of the needs of our clients, First Nation groups and communities throughout regional Queensland. Becoming part of Beca preserves what makes CQG special while expanding our ability to support clients with larger, more complex program over the long term.”

Local CQG teams will continue to provide clients with the same level of personalised, local expertise and experience, now backed by the breadth of Beca’s multidisciplinary business.
