Prohibition Liquor Co. Recognised as Champion Australian Distiller
Adelaide-based producer awarded top honours at the 2025 Melbourne Royal International Spirits Awards.
Local distillers Prohibition Liquor Co. have officially shaken and stirred their way to the top, taking out the prestigious Champion Australian Distiller title at the 2025 Melbourne Royal Australian International Spirits Awards.
Held on July 10th at the Melbourne Showgrounds, this year’s awards saw more than 800 entries judged by Australia’s most respected distilling experts, awarding 103 gold, 372 silver and 281 bronze medals. The event is the largest and most prestigious of its kind in the country, and celebrated in style with a cocktail-style awards night. Here, 20 Best Category winners and four major Champion Trophies were given out, celebrating the standout producers from around the country.
Melbourne Royal Food and Beverage Awards Senior Manager Kirrily Waldhorn shared that being recognised at these awards confirms that you are the hallmark of quality:
“It assures consumers and trade that a spirit has been rigorously evaluated by an internationally esteemed judging panel, representing the very best our country has to offer. Winning a Melbourne Royal trophy or medal is wonderful recognition and reward for the expertise, passion and commitment devoted to distilling excellence.”
With Prohibition taking out these major awards, this win could open more doors for Adelaide-based distillers, as the Melbourne Royal seal of excellence is known to boost brand recognition, commercial growth, and global visibility. And South Australia’s distilling talent didn’t stop there.
Prohibition Liquor Co. began back in 2015 when two friends from Adelaide came up with a plan to start their very own gin distillery. From humble beginnings in an inner-suburbs backyard garage, the Prohibition brand quickly became a favourite amongst locals, and in only ten years has grown to be one of the best in the country.
