Survey report: Mapping the French Business Footprint in Australia

Survey Report : French business in Australia

Download the first report on the French business presence in Australia!

We are proud to unveil a landmark report conducted by the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FACCI) in collaboration with Team France Business.

This initiative, supported by the STAFE programme and the Consulate General of France in Sydney and Melbourne, offers the first qualitative snapshot of French-owned entities and entrepreneurs operating in Australia.

📢 How strong is the French business footprint in Australia?

The first report captures detailed data from 342 businesses, revealing the scale, diversity, and economic impact of the French business community – from SMEs to multinational subsidiaries.

  • 80,000+ jobs supported by French-owned entities

  • Representation across 89 industries

  • $2 million average turnover for French entrepreneurs (Entrepreneurs Français de l’Étranger – EFE)

  • 30% of subsidiaries report annual revenues exceeding $100 million

A first step toward greater visibility

This survey represents a valuable first step in mapping and understanding the footprint of the French business community in Australia. While Eurostat recorded 778 French subsidiaries in Australia in 2022, many organisations are still unaccounted for. A more complete dataset would allow for richer, more accurate analysis, ensuring that all industries and business sizes are adequately represented.

That’s why we strongly encourage those who haven’t yet contributed to take part in the next edition – every response strengthens the impact of the findings and the voice of our community.
