Derek BergOwner & CEO, Berg Engineering

Derek Berg is the CEO and a shareholder of his family’s business, Berg Engineering. Celebrating close to five decades in operation, the business was founded in 1972 by Derek’s parents, Roger and Pam Berg, in their garage.

Derek is a graduate of the University of Queensland, studying commerce with a finance major. Post graduate qualifications include residency courses in strategy through YPO at MIT in Boston.

Before joining the family business in 1997, Derek worked in chartered accounting and finance for a Non-Ferrous Metal trader on the London Metal Exchange.

Since joining the family business, Derek and his team, together with his Father, Roger as Chairman, have gradually grown the $3 million workshop they had in 1996 into a business that manages approximately $90 million in rotable assets and collects revenue in manufacturing and construction of over $45 million. They currently have operations in New Caledonia, across the east coast of Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.

Today, the core of Berg Engineering’s business is maintaining, managing and repairing severe service assets in nickel, non-ferrous mining, coal, rare earth minerals and gas operations.
