Niels LeemputTechnical Manager, Engie Impact

Niels Leemput is Technical Manager for Engie Impact in Australia as from January 2020. Niels is managing ongoing projects for Engie Impact in the Asia-Pacific and is further developing the sustainability solutions activities in the region.

Prior to moving to Australia, Niels was working for for Engie Impact in Brussels (Belgium) since 2015, where he was responsible for several decarbonization roadmaps for commercial clients, industrials, and regions. These roadmaps contain different energy vectors (electricity, heat, cold, fuel…) and utilities (waste, water…).

In 2018, Niels developed of a zero-carbon roadmap for the energy system in the North of Chile, combining solar energy and and green Hydrogen to fully decarbonize the mining activities in that region. In 2017, Niels participated in the zero-carbon roadmap for the island of Lifou (New Caledonia), which sought to move towards 100% RES within the coming years. Additionally, Niels developed several decarbonization roadmaps for off-grid applications (e.g. remote settlements, mining operations…).

Niels Leemput received the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, with specialization in energy, from the KU Leuven, Belgium, in 2010. He obtained his Ph.D. in Electric at the KU Leuven in 2015, titled “Grid-supportive charging infrastructure for plug-in electric vehicles”.
