Alstom and DT Infrastructure Secure €1bn Contract for Perth High Capacity Signalling Project

Alstom and DT Infrastructure awarded €1B (AUD$1.6B) contract for Perth, Western Australia High Capacity Signalling Project.

Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility solutions, and DT Infrastructure, a leading Australian provider of engineering and construction services, have been awarded a €1 billion (AUD $1.6 billion) contract by the Public Transport Authority (PTA) of Western Australia. This contract involves the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of high-capacity signalling technology for Perth’s suburban rail network.

The contract will see the implementation of Alstom’s Urbalis CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) technology to replace the existing signalling and train control systems in Perth. This advanced technology is expected to bring several key improvements to the rail network:

- Increased Network Capacity: The new signalling system will enable a 40% increase in the capacity of Perth’s suburban rail network.

- Energy Efficiency and Cybersecurity: The project will introduce technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency and implementing advanced cybersecurity measures.

- Local Employment Opportunities: The project is set to create over 750 local jobs, with a focus on supporting both local and Aboriginal businesses.

This initiative is part of the METRONET program, a major public transport infrastructure enhancement effort in Perth. It is notable for being the largest signalling project globally by route length and marks a significant development in the city’s rail infrastructure.

Pascal Dupond, Managing Director of Alstom Australia and New Zealand, noted:

“ It is our privilege to deliver this, backed by our global expertise and local knowhow, for Western Australia, continuing our long history of deep partnership with the State.”

Darren Crichton, Chief Executive Officer of DT Infrastructure, added:

“ We’re delighted to be working with Alstom to deliver this remarkable project, drawing on our extensive experience optimising and delivering improvements to passenger rail networks across Australia.”
