Le Courrier Australien organises the second edition of the "French of the Year in Australia" award

The prize aims to recognise French citizens in Australia who have distinguished themselves in a particular field.

The "French of the Year in Australia 2022" award by Le Courrier Australien intends to honour French citizens who have recently arrived in Australia, or who have been living here for a long time. The citizens' commitment and talents contribute to the influence of France throughout Australia.

François Vantomme, Director of Le Courrier Australien is very enthusiastic about launching this second edition.

"We are also very impressed with the response from readers to this first competition with over 15,000 votes. This is an incredible number and confirms that our readers in Australia and France wanted this competition. The nominees, from every state in the country, all had brilliant and remarkable profiles.

The competition, which is organized by the French Embassy in Canberra and the French Consulate General in Sydney, is counting 6 categories, including 2 new ones:

  • The first category, "Solidarity" aims to reward French people who have contributed to mutual support;
  • The prize for "Entrepreneurship" is intended to honour artisans, creators, or business leaders;
  • The "Research and Innovation" category seeks to bring more public awareness of French researchers working in Australia, as well as entrepreneurs, who have developed innovative solutions in their field;
  • The "Sport and Culture" price will honour artists and athletes of all kinds for their achievements;
  • The new category "Sustainability" will recognise an individual or company's ongoing commitment and outstanding contribution to sustainable development;
  • The last category "Special Award for French Women in Australia" of the year, rewards women who have distinguished themselves in Australia in terms of their entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, determination or commitment.

A special "Friendship" prize will also be awarded to Australians who contribute in an exemplary way to the friendly relationship between France and Australia.

Le Courrier Australien and the organizing committee wanted readers to be fully involved in the selection process. They are the ones who nominate the candidates in the categories and who vote during the selection phases.

The jury will be made up of French representatives and experts in several fields who will contribute their knowledge to the pre-selection. But the readers will have the final word.

A gala evening in Sydney will be organized for the presentation of the Awards to the various winners.
