Melbourne Metro Tunnel breaks new ground

Bouygues Construction Australia's team in the CYP joint venture for client Rail Projects Victoria achieved a fantastic milestone for the project!

Bouygues Construction Australia's team in the CYP joint venture for client Rail Projects Victoria achieved a fantastic milestone for the project: the breakthrough of TBM Joan at Parkville.

The Metro Tunnel Project has hit another milestone after tunnel boring machine (TBM) Joan broke through at the Parkville Station site this week. Launched from Arden in May 2020, Joan travelled 1.4km to Parkville before breaking through into the station box 20 metres below Grattan Street.

Bouygues Construction Australia is actively contributing in what happens to be the biggest public transport project in Victoria’s history.  The project is supporting jobs as well as the Melbournian economy through the Coronavirus pandemic as Jacinta Allan, minister for Transport Infrastructure states :

“It’s fantastic to see Joan arrive at the future Parkville station. The Metro Tunnel is working through the pandemic supporting thousands of jobs, while creating the new space to run more trains more often. I thank everyone on the project for their hard work .”
