New Caledonia's government sets out a fresh strategy for economic revival and stronger international promotion.

New Caledonia is entering a new phase of tourism and economic revival. Christopher Gygès, the government minister responsible for economic attractiveness, has outlined an ambitious strategy to strengthen the international promotion of the destination.

Following the significant challenges experienced in 2024, the territory is repositioning tourism as a key driver of economic diversification.

This ambition is backed by a joint mobilisation of public and private stakeholders, alongside a significant increase in international promotional budgets.

Enhanced Visibility and Diversification

The recovery strategy places particular emphasis on strengthening New Caledonia's profile in priority markets including Australia, New Zealand and Japan through coordinated campaigns and attractive offers developed in partnership with airlines and tour operators.

The destination is also betting on the growth of business tourism (MICE), the strengthening of event infrastructure, and sports tourism, all while showcasing its outstanding natural assets. A new tourism brand is also currently in development, designed to embody this renewal on the international stage.

The recent opening of the Wadra Bay Hotel on Lifou and the upcoming arrival of the Aqualuna in Nouméa are clear illustrations of this development momentum.

New Offerings and Cultural Momentum

Beyond infrastructure, New Caledonia is deepening its appeal through an increasingly rich calendar of cultural, sporting, and musical events.

In the coming months, the territory will welcome a number of high-profile French artists, such as the hypnotist Mesmer and the French humorists Ahmed Sylla and Jarry.

The Trail Series offers a diverse range of races throughout the year from ultra-trail distances to more accessible formats attracting both seasoned athletes and adventure-seekers looking for an immersive experience.

On the golf front, the Evian New Caledonia Cup is part of a three-year development plan aimed at repositioning the tournament as a must-attend event for professionals and amateurs alike. The 2026 edition will bring together around thirty professional golfers drawn predominantly from Australia and New Zealand for four days of high-level competition. Among the highlights, the team Pro-Am will offer amateur players the unique opportunity to share the course with professionals in a friendly and immersive setting.
