Alstom celebrates 70 years of manufacturing in Dandenong, Victoria site

This milestone celebrates the site’s key role in Victoria’s rail industry and its lasting legacy of creating skilled jobs for generations.

Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, is celebrating the 70th anniversary of its Dandenong facility. The site is marking the event, its enduring contribution to Victoria’s rail industry and its role in employing 500+ direct jobs and up to 1,900 more jobs across the Victorian rail industry.

The site’s legacy has been built on a strong collaboration between Alstom, the Victorian Government, and the local workforce which has and continues to drive the State’s rail transport and infrastructure evolution.

Since its establishment, the Dandenong site has been at the forefront of local manufacturing, producing over 600 trams and 800 trains that continue to serve the people of Victoria. Generations of experts and workers have come through this site, playing their part in shaping Victoria’s transport infrastructure. Each car, wheel set and driver’s cab has been locally crafted by a dedicated team who all share in the pride of connecting the Victorian travelling community.

Today, Alstom is a key partner in delivering Victoria’s major rolling stock projects including:

  • 100 Next Generation G Class Trams
  • 25 X’Trapolis 2.0 metro trains
  • The ongoing production of 124 VLocity trains, which Alstom has been building since 2003, with some original team members still contributing to the project today.

Pascal Dupond, Managing Director of Alstom Australia and New Zealand, said:

“Victoria is the home of rail manufacturing in Australia, and Alstom’s Dandenong site is central to this legacy,”

He concluded:

“Our contribution to Victoria’s public transport network is made possible by the skills, expertise, and dedication of our team in Australia. We are proud to continue this deep partnership with the State to deliver world-class trams and trains,”
